controversial. senator john kerry is much beloved by everybody and capitol hill and even john mccain said he would endorse him. so that will go through without controversy. i think both of these men will be confirmed previously. but people don't think the secretary of defense choice is a signal maybe we will not be as aggressive as some with light in defending israel. host: that is chuck hagel. minimum wage, you expect such issues to come up? guest: first, one of the things that was most interesting about the speech yesterday, coming off a campaign that was so focused on jobs, was the relative lack of a direct engagement with how you create jobs during the inaugural address. now, this was not a set of policy proposals, which woodpeck which there would be more about that in the state of the union. but it was striking that the focus of the campaign was not terribly reflected in the address that he gave yesterday. as far as some of these labor issues, a lot of this is going on in the state's. i think there is a national political aspect to this. i don't know, frankly, exactly what plans they ha

like durbin and schumer, liberal democrats going along with something with john mccain and lindsey graham, that's a pretty good sign that this will pass easily in the senate. i think one of the most intriguing stories is the fight for credit. i think there are going to be a lot of people headed by marco rubio who will want to get a lot of this credit. lori: on the political side but it also begs the question, right, greg, what happens to the millions of illegal immigrants already living and working in this country? will it put pressure on available jobs and other services like hospital care, et cetera, what do you think?. >> i don't think so. i would prefer to take a positive spin on this entire story. i think if you look at a country like japan which is a demographic train wreck with a huge deficit, much bigger than ours, we're adding lots of people who will pay social security taxes. who will pay other taxes. you're adding to our population i think a workforce that will actually help our fiscal issues far more than a country say like japan. lori: good comparison. help our fiscal
